Knowing Earth is a new approach to some of the problems that we have been dealing with for decades. To make this happen, we are currently establishing a core team of experts with a diverse range of skills, capabilities and experience and at the same time developing academic and commercial partnership links
Dr Paul Markwick
Founder and CEO of Knowing Earth
Paul is the CEO and Founder of Knowing Earth, which he set-up after 30 years of experience in Industry and Academia. Most recently a successful 10 years on the board of Getech Group plc., first as Geological Director and then Technical Director.
He is currently a visiting lecturer at the University of Leeds, where he is also an associate member of the Basin Structure Group and co-leader of the groups annual MSc field course in Spain. He also holds a visiting Research Fellowship at the University of Bristol as an active member of the BRIDGE group of climate dynamicists led by Professors Paul Valdes and Dan Lunt.

He worked for two years at BP’s Research Centre in Sunbury-on-Thames before moving to Chicago, where Paul studied with Professor Fred Zeigler’s oil industry sponsored Paleogeographic Atlas Project, reconstructing the geographic and climatic evolution of the Earth over the last 120 million years. This was followed by a post-doctorate at the University of Reading researching the exploration significance of the paleoclimatic and drainage evolution of southern Africa using computer-based climate models. He then moved to Robertson Research International Limited, now part of CGG, as a Staff Petroleum Geologist, where he developed global predictive models of source and reservoir facies, moving to Getech in 2004.
His active research interests include global tectonics, the reconstruction of global palaeolandscapes and palaeodrainage, palaeoclimatology and palaeoceanography.
