This is what we are about at Knowing.Earth – helping ourselves, our partners and our clients know the Earth better so we can better manage our planet, its resources and environment. This is as much about attitude, as it is about knowledge, insight and data. It means not being afraid to ask for help or to initially ask the 'wrong' questions, even if they seem foolish or simple. Only by questioning can we learn, and there is so much still to know.
Knowing.Earth exists to provide information and insight based on the most current understanding of our planet’s past, present and possible futures. In this way, we are able to support more informed decision making, from the search for natural resources to environmental management to education to shaping government and world policy. We make this happen by knowing the right questions to ask, the right experts to talk to and work with, and the right technologies and systems to use in the right way.

The technology we have today is amazing and something we use to the full here at Knowing Earth. More today then any generation before, this technology is changing so quickly that we can risk being awed and seduced by what is coming rather than thinking about what to do with the technology we have and addressing the questions we developed the technology for. This is something we are very conscious of at Knowing Earth. It is about new and innovative ideas, but it is also the recognition that those scientists and natural philosophers who have proceeded us have already had many of the same ideas before us and still have much to contribute. If we have not read their past, we are destined to repeat it. The great libraries of the world are full of data and knowledge that in many cases can answer the questions we have before we spend more monies and time on obtaining new observations.
"If we have not read their past,
we are destined to repeat it"
Our approach is never set in stone [sic]. We adapt and tune our network team resources, capabilities and processes to meet the specific needs of our client partners. We firmly believe in assembling the right team and right approach for each project. These teams are then supported by our own growing and evolving data and knowledgebases to provide a foundation resource for all who need it.
It's about collaboration, innovation and education.
This is why we so highly value our academic partners and the importance of teaching and research to ensuring the next generations build on what we already know.
